Various Stickers

Published:

One of our Gardens Media Group members had previously been conscripted into a state propaganda media unit in the South African Defense Force before enrolling at art school at the University of Cape Town. He broke into their offices and stole thousands of rands worth of silk-screening materials including reams of sticker paper.

We put this into good use and produced hundreds of stickers in a series addressing aspects of the apartheid state and its leaders.

I designed the Minister Malan and President Botha bomb stickers and Jane Solomon designed the “Casppir  is not a friendly ghost”  sticker. This referenced the comic Casper The Friendly Ghost. The South African Casspir is a vehicle, primarily used for troop transport.  It is well known for its role in South Africa's military and police during the apartheid era, where it was used to patrol townships and enforce security.
