In South Africa during 1989, the concept of "Towards a People's Culture" gained traction asa crucial aspect of the anti-apartheid struggle. It signified a movement to reclaim and reshape culture to reflect the aspirations of the majority population, challenging the cultural dominance imposed by the apartheid regime.

We designed the logo and many of the posters for the festival. The festival was ultimately banned by the state on the eve of it being launched. The exhibition could open for a night as it was scheduled for the day before the banning order came into effect. Some of us took part in this show.
